Forum 81 BBS Rules

Forum 81 is a small board for people who like building things. Keep it friendly and useful, and everyone has a better time. By posting here you agree to these rules and to the Terms of Use.

The rules

1. Be decent. Disagree with ideas, not people. No harassment, hate speech, threats, or personal attacks.
2. No doxxing, and protect your own info too. Never post anyone’s private information: real name, home address, phone number, email, workplace, photos of them, or account details. This includes posting personal details of your own volition.
3. Stay within the law. Research and engineering is what this forum is for. This includes some technologies that can be used to harm others intentionally or accidentally.
What is not allowed and not tolerated under any circumstance:
   • Demonstrating how to use a computer to commit an illegal act.
   • Distributing a computer program with intent to violate the law or to harm other people or property.
   • Distributing illegally acquired software or digital media.
   • Posting technical data that U.S. export control law (ITAR or EAR) does not allow to be shared publicly.

You can discuss how a technology works. You can’t use it, or help someone use it, to break the law, at least not here.

4. No spam. Sharing your own project is welcome when it fits the topic. Ad dumps, referral links, and repeat posts are not.
5. Keep it safe for work. No porn, gore, or shock content.
6. Post in the right board and give your topic a clear title. Announcements are for site news from the admin only.
7. Build safely. Advice about electronics, mains power, batteries, printers, and robots is shared at your own risk, so double-check before you plug anything in. Don’t post builds that are unsafe or dangerous to people or property. Never pressure, trick, or dare anyone into building, testing, or trying something dangerous. That gets you banned on the spot.

Moderation

Posts that break these rules can be edited or removed, and accounts can be suspended or banned. Small slips get a warning first. Doxxing, threats, malware, or pushing someone to do something dangerous can mean an instant ban.
