First big update

The site got a full rebuild. I’ve been working on a custom WordPress theme for a while now, and today I got it to a point I’m happy with. Here’s a rundown of what’s changed.

> The theme

  • The whole site now runs on a custom theme I built from a stripped-down starter theme. It’s styled after an old CRT terminal. The main pieces:
  • A monitor bezel around the whole page, with a vignette and scan-lines to sell the effect
  • A boot sequence that plays the first time you visit (any key skips it)
  • The site title and tagline type themselves out, with a blinking cursor.
  • A status bar at the bottom with a live clock
  • Posts and pages render as bordered panels.
  • Internal page links show up as small preview cards instead of white iframes.
  • The sidebar calendar highlights days with posts.
  • A custom 404 page styled as a kernel panic. Kind of proud of that one—go get lost on purpose if you want to see it.
  • Small touches: hover effects on links, a cursor trail, terminal-style menus
  • No page builders or premade themes, just hand-edited PHP and CSS. I’m still pretty new to this, so if something looks broken, it probably is—let me know.

> First project and docs

The Projects page is up and running. I thought it would be fun to style it as a directory listing. The first project is also live. You can check it out here. https://katanyxislabs.com/test-home-page/projects/uuid-000011302025-archthinkcluster/ The full overview—description, scope, and reasoning—is on the project page, as well as its own documentation page that will be filled out as the project goes. I am also working on a documentation archive page, which will be styled in the same way as the projects page.

> What’s next

As of now? More work on the ArchThinkCluster, more docs for the cluster, and cleaning up the remaining rough edges on the site. We think that when we have a good workflow going and understand how to use WordPress better, we will be posting some more projects with their respective documentation. Until then, we will be hard at work sorting out final details.

Thanks for stopping by.
